Episode 664: The NOT 2024 Top Ten

The review of 2024 films are in full swing, but first there is the annual look back at the movies seen last year that were NOT FROM last year. Its the NOT 2024 Top Ten, where we highlight films worthy of a second discussion because they just impacted us so much.

And for the 3rd year running on this particular episode, Dave, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl welcome in Friend of the Show, streaming live from the freezing metropolis somewhere in Bainbridge, Wyoming, that is one Jacob "Roth from Wyoming."

Together, the foursome discuss their top ten faves of the year from all over the place, as far back as the early 20s and 30s to all the way through the 60s and 70s and in 2010s and 2020s... assigned movies come into play as films others were asked to watch appear in various Top Tens, while Burgess recommended movies keep coming up as well.

Mikey is loving some old Gena Rowland and Walter Matthau as an action star, while #XLessDrEarl digs into more music docs, Dave revisits a Hallmark fave, and Roth finally sets sail on the ship of dreams. Plus, why did Green Book get so much hate, Eastwood represents (even if he is a d-bag of a romantic partner) and Powers Boothe makes another list.

Also... Garrison makes a random appearance with lots of Chucky Grodin love.

Episode 663: 2024's Surprise & Delights

It's become an annual tradition that started with d$ wanting an excuse to talk about Jackie Chan's "The Foreigner"... a movie not worth of a Top Ten of the year appearance, but worthy of discussion... a surprise, nay, an absolute delight. Hence, the annual "Surprise & Delight" episode!

These are movies that surprised and delighted Mikey, d$, #XLessDrEarl, and even Friend of the Show, Miss Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess.

First up, some chatter about Eric Roberts' new autobiography, plus thoughts on the indie movie scene. Then, Jason Statham's IP'ness... Jake Gyllenhaal's "Road House"... Hugh Grant's winning villainy... d$ getting it wrong, then getting it Hot n Frosty right... plus love for Glen Powell and admiration for Sebastian Stan.

Then, 2025's Burgentine's Day commences, as assignments are given from the the crew and a few friends...

Episode 662: The 2025 Movie Auction

It's that time of the year, when the annual Movie Auction takes place... and by "the annual", we mean the second one we've ever done!

In a concept borrowed from The Big Picture Podcast (all nods and love to Amanda Dobbins, Chris Ryan, and Sean Fennessey), Mikey and d$ are joined by Friends of the Show Garrison "Pride of Kennesaw" Ryfun and Roth from Wyoming to fill out their roster of films for 2025.

Everyone has a proverbial $1000 to work with, as various movies are put on the auction block and bid for - with the intentions of getting the movies that will make the most money domestically, as well as will get both Oscar love in early 2026.

The big ones are all hear -- Fantastic Four, Avatar, Wicked, and Superman included -- plus some surprises, like live action Stitch and Toothless, a Peruvian Paddington, more dinosaurs, and Glen Powell running.

A Rotten Tomatoes game determines the draft order, and will Roth go rogue again??
